Hi, I'd like to play a game of Photographic Whispers, who's interested?

What is Photographic Whispers?

It's quite like the game Chinese Whispers, but with photos, as you might expect.

What is Chinese Whispers?

For those that haven't heard of it, Chinese Whispers is a game for a group of people, also known as The Telephone Game. Everyone sits in a circle and the first person thinks up a phrase, he then whispers it to the next person, who turns to the person after her and passes on the message, and it goes all the way around until it gets back to the start. The interesting part is when people don't quite hear what's been whispered and they just have to make their best guess, so:

"I've got no trophies to give to my brother." might be misheard as,
"I've got no soap, he's forgiven my mother.", ah the natural comedy is obvious!

So how does this work with photos?

In Photographic Whispers, instead of starting with a phrase, you start with a photo. The first person takes his photo of everyday objects and then sends it to the second person. The second person then has to try and replicate the photo as best they can. Say they were sent a picture of Romeo and Juliet on a white table on some grass, they might have to change the white table for a green one and use Paradise Lost: Book 1 instead. This is all good. Person #2 then sends their photo to Person #3 and it continues. At the end, all the photos are revealed and we stand back in wonder.

Anything else to bear in mind?

I'd like these to be decent photos, so only volunteer if you have an actual camera. Camera phones don't count. Don't worry about having the particular items; I'll make sure the starting picture only contains usual household things, and if you don't have something it only makes the game better anyway. Also, remember you're making a commitment here; it's not a big one but if you don't deliver you'll let people down. Hopefully this will be very fun and interesting.

Sounds cool, how do I start playing?

Just post in this journal saying you want to play. When I have enough people I'll post a list of all those playing and send the photo to Person #1. If many people want to play I might run two games at once. Also, please spread the word of this game around to other people who like fun.
